What can you use the app for?

Convo, previously Convofy, is a private social network app for within a company. It allows conversation and collaboration in real-time over the secure company network.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

Convo was founded in 2011 and is led by CEO Faizan Busdar and Director of Program Management Sabika Nazim. The company name changed from Convofy to Convo in April 2012. Unique visitors to the website remain under 1,000, with a brief spike just after the name change to nearly 3,000 before returning to 1,000.

What are the differences to other apps?

Convo brings together collaboration and communication tools in one application. This union is expected to increase productivity as there is no switching between work and communications. Neither Chatter nor Yammer brings the same real-time collaborative tools to the social business environment.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

The application dashboard is intuitive and shows news feeds, task lists, and more. It does not take the place of company email, but may reduce internal emails by promoting real-time chatting about projects. By communicating and collaborating within one application, there is a savings of time and effort, streamlining projects through the app.

Contacts may be imported from third party applications or added individually via their email addresses. Contacts may then be added to groups for communication regarding specific projects or topics.

Links may be shared using desktop capture without opening the app. Files are shared via upload to the newsfeed. Team members may then comment on the files. Files may also be shared via desktop capture without opening the app.

Messages can include context, which allows the commenters to see the context of each comment whether a web link, mockup, or even a Google map. Context is the key to Convo's application. The ability to view the context of each reference without leaving the application saves time and enhances communication and collaboration, streamlining the process.

The collaborative features area very innovative and streamlined. Users may receive instant notifications customized to their needs for each group activity or comment. Digests of daily or weekly activity are also available.

Task Lists may be shared or kept private. They may be reordered with drag and drop and are in checklist format for easy tracking of progress. Tasks may be assigned to others and tracked within the particular group using the Task List. Milestones may be used to track significant phases within projects and may also be assigned to specific users.

Users may invite guests from outside of the company to a private group, but they will be unable to access any other parts of the network other than the group they are invited to enter. This is useful for discussing progress with clients and allowing them to view and add input to ongoing projects.

Mobile apps are available for most smartphones.

How does the registration process work?

To sign up, users enter their work email into the space on the home page. Users must have a valid company email to use the service. Gmail, Yahoo, or other general email addresses are not accepted. This application is strictly for businesses.

What does it cost to use the application?

Convo has three plans to choose from. The Basic plan is free and is recommended for private social networks for teams. It includes status updates and microblogging, sharing files and images with unlimited storage, the ability to share blogs/articles/weblinks/lists/milestones, in-context collaboration on files and web, presence and company chat, employee profiles, mobile app, private and secure, unlimited groups/teams/projects/topics, unlimed storage, a 25MB per file cap, unlimited users, and guest users.

The Premium plan for $5 per user per month is recommended to enterprise the social network for business with administrative controls. It includes all of the above, plus 100MB per file cap, administrators, admin control, ability to suspend former employees/block users/manage content, security controls, network wide keyword searches, and priority support.

The Enterprise Plan is recommended as a comprehensive enterprise social network with admin tools and custom integration. It includes all of the above, plus unlimited file size cap, basic training, and LDAP integration. Users wishing to use this plan must contact or call 1-888-96-CONVO for pricing.

Who would you recommend the application to?

This application would increase the productivity in companies that use a lot of collaboration in projects. The real-time chatting and contextual sharing will save time and increase the effectiveness of the workforce.
